Understanding and Supporting Incarcerated Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder
When we asked, “What’s missing from your training,” correctional officers pointed out that they want, and need, to learn more about serving incarcerated individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Sadly, there isn’t a lot of information available on the subject. The resources and training that do exist focus either on first responders or legal staff. Our goal is to fill that gap in professional development. By speaking with subject matter experts and scouring the little research available on best practices, we aim to help educate correctional staff in how to best support individuals with ASD in the carceral setting.
